Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a meditation practice that aims to reduce stress and improve overall well-being. It promotes a non-specific positive effect on mental and physical health and focuses on stress management, emotion regulation, and improved concentration. Research findings and clinical evidence suggest that MBSR can effectively address stress-related problems such as anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and chronic pain. MBSR can also provide relief for common complaints such as infections, skin diseases, sleep disorders, migraines, and digestive disorders. MBSR is usually carried out in a structured program with eight sessions (developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn), which includes weekly two-hour group sessions and a six-hour day of mindfulness. Participants are encouraged to take an additional 45 minutes each day for personal practice. The goal is to integrate mindfulness into daily life. The main practices of MBSR include: Body scan meditation to develop body awareness, sitting meditation, walking meditation, yoga postures for mindful movement, mindful engagement with everyday tasks to maintain a non-judgmental awareness of sensory impressions. These practices are rooted in established traditions, such as the yoga of Hinduism and the sitting and walking meditation of Buddhism. The core of mindfulness practice is to accept thoughts, sensations, and feelings without judgment. The main benefits of MBSR are: improved cognitive functions, greater emotional resilience, physiological benefits, including pain relief, improved self-awareness, increase in positive thinking (proven by brain studies), improved concentration, greater empathy, reduction of blood pressure and heart rate, improved ability to practice non-judgmental thinking. Numerous studies confirm the effectiveness of MBSR in improving mental and physical health. Research has clarified the mechanisms by which MBSR supports transformative growth and resilience. This structured, evidence-based approach to mindfulness offers valuable benefits for many people, which sustainably improve well-being.
